What is CCL

Citizens' Climate Lobby is a nonpartisan grassroots organization focused on building political will for effective climate solutions particularly through national policies like a carbon fee and dividend. However, CCL also works at the local and state levels. Citizens' Climate Lobby empowers citizens to engage in bipartisan advocacy by training volunteers to meet with legislators, write opinion pieces, and organize community events that promote climate action

Our Team's Role

As a part of the broader Citizens' Climate Lobby youth network, we work to mobilize students to be leaders of climate policy in three key ways: Education, Guidance, and Collaboration. We are here specifically for students in the seven mountain west states — Arizona, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. Some examples of what we do include working with students to start their own CCL groups, educational forums, & scholarship funding

Our Tools

The different activities our MW team leverages to bring students into the political process & make productive change

1. Lobbying Congress: CCL has built friendly relationships with many conservative as well as liberal representatives & we strive to give students the opportunity to lobby them

2. Media: As we more and more information is shared online, we utilize media to engage with others & influence leaders. We use social media, news articles, and press releases

3. Grassroots Outreach: We educate students both in and out of CCL in order to empower more people and increase our voice in different communities. We do this through public forums, community events, and extending our opportunities to all environmentally-engaged students

What is
CCL's National Youth Action Team
and how is it similar & different?

Similarities

1. Network: The Youth Action Team is a broader network for all of CCL which our team falls under

2. Goals: We both work to support & educate youth locally/state-wide

  • We both put on trainings, do outreach, & media communication

Differences

1. Focus: Due to our focus on only seven states, we are able to tailor our efforts to the needs of the Mountain West

  • We provide funding for MW students that is unavailable nationally

  • Our trainings are related to the issues in our states

  • We are able to provide closer team collaboration

2. Age Range: Due to our smaller size, we support all youth and students in the MW

  • Nationally, there is a group for students under 18 and a higher education group for students 18 and older
